Another Monday night blockbuster as the Cowboys take on the Panthers and our man Uncle Tone thinks there might be an upset brewing…
Panthers v Cowboys
I’m not sure what the Panthers have to do to gain some respect. Last week we cleaned up at the bookies window because we backed a top four side against a team outside the top eight – with a handicap! It’s not algebra kids. This week, the Chocky soldiers are back in the Mountains and host a team that is afraid of flying.
It seems everyone has fallen in love with North Queensland after they have had a winning month. The Cows never have had an issue winning at home, and the past fortnight they have played 2 teams who collectively have more problems than a blind guide dog.
Prior to that they were on the road to the then struggling Bulldogs and a week earlier the mighty Cronulla Sharks – who obviously are not mighty at all. Whilst I may be a hard marker, I will acknowledge that a win is a win, a streak is a streak and the road duck may be finally off the Cowboy’s back, so I can cop the hype to an extent.
That extent stops at the odds. Some books have Penrith outsiders again which is stone cold blasphemy. The foot of the mountains is a long way from the Mad Cow and the Strand in Townsville. By the time the Matty Johns Show finishes, the Cowboys will be back in the air sipping on $12 cans of Pure Blonde thinking what happened to the streak and here we go again.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the Panthers can win the comp, in fact I doubt they’ll see the second week of the finals, but fair crack of the whip, they are a current and worthy top four side playing in form, at home. What other team in that scenario would start as outsiders? Uncle will give you a tip – none. Nor should they.
I’m not sure why no one else is respecting the Panthers, but the best tip the Unc can give you this week, is to assure you do.
Back the Panthers head to head ($2.12).
Spekky: Chicka Segeyaro first meat ($18.50)
I’m Uncle Tony,
