Warriors coach Andrew McFadden hopes the return of Konrad Hurrell will prove one of the factors that helps them keep their NRL finals dream going this weekend.

They host reigning premiers Sydney Roosters, who are 1.82 to win the match, at Mt Smart Stadium needing a victory to give them a realistic shot at finishing in the top eight.

They must win two of their final three games of the home and away season, and defeat against the Roosters would leave them having to beat the Panthers away from home in their final match.

Facing a team like the Roosters is a massive challenge with the roster they have.

Hurrell was close to earning a recall against Newcastle on Sunday, having flown out to Australia to be in the shake-up if McFadden opted to risk him following a hamstring injury that had kept him out for two weeks.

As well as bringing back the centre against the Roosters, the Warriors coach has dropped Suaia Matagi to the bench, named Ben Henry in the second row and switched Ben Matulino from the second row to prop for his 150th NRL game. The Roosters are 1.87 to win the match conceding a 1.5-point start.

McFadden said the loss to the Knights was hugely disappointing, and was the second game in a row in which they had played poorly.

He added: “Facing a team like the Roosters is a massive challenge with the roster they have and the form they picked up against the Tigers last week. There’s no question we will need to be at the absolute top of our game to compete with them.”

The Warriors lost 28-22 to the Knights, having stuttered to victory over the Sharks in the previous round, and will face a Roosters team fresh from their 48-8 win away to the Wests Tigers.
